Note: This section may contain spoilers for The Sight and Dark River
A big rumor going around the warrior universe is that one or more of the three apprentices: Jaypaw, Hollypaw and Lionpaw, may be Leafpool and Crowfeather's kit. I made this topic to debate that rumor.
First the facts against the rumor itself (with possible rebutes):
1) Crowfeather and Leafpool would have to have mated almost on the same date as Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight. Rebute: Squirrelflight gave birth away from camp, it's possible Leafpool did too. here could have been a couple of days difference between the two.
2) Leafpool would not have been able to have kits without the clan finding out. Rebute: Yellowfang managed to do it. Why not Leafpool?
Facts FOR the rumor (with possible rebutes):
1) In the play "After Sunset: We Need to Talk," Leafpool hints to Crowfeather that she has something important to tell him. And later she mentions that she hopes they don't regret not talking. Rebute: She could have just wanted to talk to him.
2) Squirrelflight never had any milk for her kits. This could mean that all three are Leafpool's. Rebute: Then why would it seem Squirrelflight was expecting? Did she eat a lot?
3) Squirrelflight and Leafpool act strange when Hollypaw becomes a medicine cat apprentice. Rebute: Leafpool might have not wanted her NIECE to make the same mistake as her. It doesn't mean that Hollypaw HAS to be her daughter.
4) Leafpool goes nuts when Hollypaw disappears in Dark River even more then Squirrelflight.
5) Squirrelflight never stayed in the nursery den when "her" kits were born she was always doing warrior stuff. If she was actually a mother then she would feel attached to her kits always staying with them excpecially when there only a few moons old.
Ideas on WHO Leafpool's child might be:
Jaypaw? No. If Jaypaw was Leafpool's child he would not be related to Tigerstar at all. Yet, Tigerstar wants Jaypaw to join him. Tigerstar only has interest in his own kin.
Lionpaw? Maybe. Lionpaw has not been developed enough as a character to point one way or the other. One fact that could go either way is that he has amber eyes. Both Leafpool and Brambleclaw have amber eyes.
Hollypaw? A definite possibility. Hollypaw has a black coat, similar to Crowfeather's dark gray. When Hollypaw tried to become a medicine cat Leafpool and Squirrelflight acted strange. As if they didn't want Hollypaw to follow in Leafpool's footsteps and in turn make her 'mistake'.
Facts Interesting to the rumor:
Would anyone else know? Not Crowfeather, Leafpool never actually gets to speak to him in the play about anything. Would Brambleclaw be told? Or Firestar?
